Satveer firmly believes in the whole school approach and thereby offers a short 2hr session alongside the longer sessions. From feedback, 100% of staff have stated they felt more confident and knowledgeable about self-harm after delivery than they did before attending.
How long do you need?
Ideally at least 2 hours. Satveer can deliver within school hours, twilight sessions or on in-sets. Feedback from schools who have had requested sessions of 1/1.5hours is consistently ‘more time needed’. What do the sessions cover?
Coverage depends on the length of the sessions but can include:
- Statistics and definition of self-harm.
- Why people turn to self-harm – triggers and functions.
- Myths & language use.
- How to support someone who self-harms.
- Broaching suspected self-harm.
- Alternative strategies, focusing on stopping and more.
Which staff should attend?
Satveer is a great believer in the whole school approach. One reason she delivers in-school training is to allow this to occur instead of a few staff being able to attend external sessions. Any member of staff may come across a student who is self-harming, thereby everyone should have at least the 2-hour session.
